How will the new Title 24 energy codes affect my project and me and are there any benefits?

When searching for contractors, make sure to ask if they know the most current energy codes in order for your project to comply for approval for the final inspection. The kitchen has the most changes in that at least 50% of the lighting must comply. Bathrooms have some electrical changes as well and other living areas need either dimmers or sensor units to comply. These changes do come at a few additional expenses but not enough to make that much of a difference. HVAC is also effected by needing a “13 SEAR” unit. Also, the ducts must be pressure tested by another company other then your HVAC contractor so as to avoid a conflict of interest. The pressure test usually runs about $300 to $600. Next month we’ll get into the benefits for you by complying with the new Title 24 energy codes.
