I need to renovate my kitchen and I also need more space for dining and entertaining. How do I plan for this?

First of all the homeowner is responsible for this part of the job by knowing what they want. You say that you already know? Maybe not!!! Put pencil to paper and start to actually draw what you want. It doesn’t have to be draftsmen like, just do it. Got an architect?  Do the drawing first so they’ll know what you want also. After either the architect or contractor competent in drawing plans can then show you ways in which to improve on it or for it to be more efficient. Also, when planning for your project, consider lighting, electrical outlets, windows, doors and how you want to configure your space. Don’t forget the higher your ceilings the more energy it will take for heating and cooling. The new energy codes will be addressed by either plan check and/or the inspections. Well, more on that next time.
