I have to do something to lower my A/C costs but I have a limited budget. What’s the best way to approach this situation?
The first thing that comes to mind is insulation, doors and windows right? Well yes and no. Let me explain.
Attic air temperatures can soar to 145F or greater. The heat is actually caused by a form of energy called Infrared radiant electromagnetic energy waves or (IR). These wave by themselves carry no heat but when they strike a surface this energy vibrates the molecules of the object and creates friction which in turn creates the heat we feel when sunlight strikes our skin. Studies have shown that using an (IR) barrier matting in the attic will cause those IR waves to bounce back outside. Use matting over any A/C ducts. Attic ventilation is also important. Use roof/gable vents, turbines and electric attic fans. These are great ways to help lower A/C costs and at a very reasonable price!
